Lil Wayne’s Welcome To Tha Carter Tour took an unexpected turn as the renowned rapper abruptly canceled the Los Angeles show during his performance, leaving fans disappointed.
On May 13, Saturday, the much-anticipated concert at The Wiltern Theatre in Koreatown, Los Angeles, drew fans both in-person and through a live stream, available for a $15 fee. However, the eagerly awaited show, scheduled to start at 9 p.m. PDT, faced delays, and Lil Wayne didn’t take the stage until after 10 p.m., much to the dismay of his dedicated fanbase. Frustration grew among attendees, with one fan taking to Twitter to express their disappointment, stating, “At the Wiltern Los Angeles Lil Wayne concert. Supposed to go on at 9 pm. It’s 10:10 now, and no Lil Wayne. Where is he?!”
Eventually, Lil Wayne emerged, clad in a Kobe Bryant L.A. Lakers jersey, a purple and gold baseball cap, and stylish sunglasses. He kicked off his set with “Mr. Carter,” a track from his Grammy Award-winning 2008 album, Tha Carter III, setting the stage for what seemed to be an exciting performance.
As the show progressed, Lil Wayne treated the audience to an extensive array of hits from his repertoire, including fan favorites like “Fireman,” “Hustler Musik,” “Drop the World,” “BM J.R.,” “Let the Built Build,” “I’m Single,” “Love Me,” “Lollipop,” and more. To amp up the excitement, he even brought out 2 Chainz for a special performance of “Duffle Bag Boy.”
However, during the middle of his set, Lil Wayne took an unexpected intermission and delegated the task of entertaining the crowd to his Young Money artists, namely Lil Twist, Yaj Kader, and Allan Cubas. Just as Cubas was about to perform his second track, Lil Wayne reappeared on stage, snatched the microphone from his artist, and expressed his dissatisfaction, suggesting that they wrap up the show due to what he perceived as a lack of enthusiasm from the audience. In no uncertain terms, Lil Wayne conveyed his sentiments to Cubas, saying, “We appreciate it, but we ain’t about to be bending over backwards for these folks. We work too hard for this shit. We work way too hard.” He then addressed the crowd, introducing his Young Money artists and conveying their appreciation before signaling to his crew that it was time to conclude the performance.
Confusion and disappointment swept through the audience as they anticipated Lil Wayne’s return to the stage. After approximately 10 minutes of uncertainty, accompanied by chants of “Weezy,” the venue’s lights illuminated, and attendees were instructed to exit.
Fans took to social media to express their discontent, with one fan tweeting, “I’ll never look at Lil Wayne the same after tonight. He really canceled his concert mid-show because the audience (I am the audience) sat down while he took a smoke and piss break.” Another disappointed attendee wrote, “Lil Wayne is the most disrespectful rapper! How are you late 3 hours then perform for 30 minutes? Everyone was so supportive, even though he had no energy. Then he cussed out his fans, dropped the mic, and left. The audacity. Smdh.”
One concertgoer claimed they would never attend another Lil Wayne show after the negative experience at The Wiltern. They tweeted, “I will never go to another Lil Wayne concert again after he arrived 3.5 hours late, then performed
