Popular rapper Lil Tjay found himself in trouble with the law once again, resulting in his recent arrest in New York. On Tuesday afternoon, around 3 p.m. local time, law enforcement officials from the New York Police Department spotted a male individual waving what appeared to be a black firearm from the sunroof of a moving vehicle near the intersection of First Avenue and East 23rd Street in Manhattan. The police quickly intervened and managed to recover an imitation pistol from the scene.
According to TMZ, Tjay’s attorney, Dawn Florio, stated that the rapper was in the midst of filming a short segment for a music video when the police arrived at the location. Subsequently, the NYPD charged Lil Tjay with multiple offenses, including reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Interestingly, the entire incident unfolded before the eyes of Lil Tjay’s Instagram Live audience, which consisted of nearly 21,000 viewers at the time. Throughout the confrontation, Tjay can be heard repeatedly telling the police not to touch him and questioning the reason behind his arrest. As the authorities proceeded to handcuff the rapper, his phone seemingly slipped into the possession of an onlooker, while onlookers urged Tjay not to engage in any further resistance.
The viewers of the Instagram Live stream were left bewildered by the unfolding events, evident in the mix of confused comments and facepalm emojis. Support for the musician poured in as well, with some using the hashtag “#freetjay” to express their solidarity.
