Chicago-native rapper, Lil Durk, is making a difference in his community through education. In collaboration with Howard University, Amazon Music’s Rotation, and his Neighborhood Heroes foundation, he has launched the Durk Banks Scholarship Fund, which aims to provide financial support to students who are pursuing higher education.
During Howard University’s Springfest 2023, two Chicago-based students were awarded $50,000 to fund their freshman tuition at the university. Additionally, Lil Durk donated $250,000 to the HBCU’s Graduation Retention Access to Continued Excellence Grant to help students from his hometown finish their studies.
Lil Durk’s goal is to ultimately put $10 million into the Durk Banks Scholarship Fund. He believes that having his own scholarship is like receiving a Grammy, and he wants to change the narrative by doing something impactful and different in the music industry.
To further support his community, the rapper spent $100,000 on an all-expenses-paid trip for 20 high schoolers to visit Howard University. The students stayed on campus and were paired with a Howard student mentor.
Lil Durk also expressed the importance of education and is currently pursuing his G.E.D. He believes that knowledge is power, and he wants to be well-informed in all areas, from technology to music and streaming.
Giving back to his community is crucial for Lil Durk, and he hopes that his efforts will inspire others to do the same. By providing financial support to students, he hopes to help them reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.
