Kelly Rowland is taking a stand against online scammers after discovering a fake account impersonating her and asking fans for money. The former Destiny’s Child star alerted her followers on Instagram, sharing details of the deceptive scheme.
In her Instagram Stories, Rowland posted a screenshot of an outrageous direct message from the account @iam.kellyrowland. The message pretended to be from the singer herself, claiming, “Hey, this is Kelly from Destiny’s Child. I lost my credit card and need money for a plain [sic] ticket so I can fly to your city to perform. Can you send me some money?”
To make matters even more absurd, the scammer followed up with, “Hi, this is Beyoncé.”
Rowland didn’t hold back in her response. Writing over the screenshot, she warned her fans, “Be careful out here” and called the attempt “Fake AF!” She also playfully clapped back at the scammer’s spelling error, adding, “And don’t you think I know how to spell P-L-A-N-E!”
The incident serves as a reminder for fans to stay vigilant online and avoid falling victim to scams involving celebrities. Rowland’s quick action in exposing the fraud underscores the importance of verifying information and being cautious when approached for money on social media.
