In a stunning shake-up inside the Justice Department, Maurene Comey… a high-profile federal prosecutor and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey… has been fired, according to three sources, including a former DOJ official.
Sources reveal that Comey received a formal termination notice citing Article II of the U.S. Constitution, which outlines presidential authority, as the basis for her dismissal.
Comey had gained national recognition as a lead prosecutor in several headline-grabbing cases. She spearheaded the federal case against hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. While Combs was cleared of the most serious allegations, he was ultimately convicted on charges related to interstate prostitution.
Maurene Comey also played a major role in the prosecution of notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was convicted and sentenced to 20 years for her involvement in Epstein’s underage sex trafficking ring… a scandal that spanned decades and stunned the world. Her case is now under Supreme Court review following an appeal.
This marks the second Comey to be removed from a powerful federal role. In 2017, then-President Donald Trump dismissed James Comey during the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The elder Comey is now facing his own DOJ probe after sharing an Instagram post in May that officials interpreted as a veiled threat toward Trump… a move that triggered widespread backlash.
As the Justice Department remains tight-lipped about Maurene Comey’s firing, questions continue to swirl about political motives and behind-the-scenes power plays at the highest levels of government.
