The Three 6 Mafia icon discussed how the group’s pioneering influence continues to be a financial goldmine for him.
Reflecting on the current trends in Hip Hop, Juicy J pointed out that what’s considered new is often just a revival of the old. “I feel like the new trends are the old trends because everybody’s sampling Three 6 Mafia,” Juicy J shared. “We started the trends, so I’m already in.”
The legendary rapper went on to reveal just how deeply the modern rap scene relies on the sound he helped create. “On some real talk, I get clearance requests for five to six samples a day. I get paid off of pretty much every song, like 90 percent of the songs out right now,” Juicy J stated proudly.
Juicy J is also grateful for the respect and admiration from today’s artists who continue to sample his music. “It’s a blessing. I love when people sample. I just approve, approve. Every time I get that email, I approve,” he said, showing his appreciation for the ongoing homage to his work.
With so much of today’s music echoing the sound of Three 6 Mafia, Juicy J feels no need to chase trends. “I don’t really have to adapt because all the music sounds like and has the flows of old Three 6 Mafia days, which I love. So I just keep doing what I’ve been doing,” he concluded.
