Jay-Z is taking a firm stand against a lawsuit accusing him and Diddy of rape, insisting the anonymous woman behind the allegations should reveal her identity.
Legal documents filed by Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, urge the court to dismiss the case if the accuser refuses to come forward publicly, TMZ reports.
Spiro’s filing emphasizes that the anonymous claims have unfairly tarnished Jay-Z’s reputation. He stated, “Fair is fair. It is not consistent with justice, fairness, or the rules governing federal proceedings for the Plaintiff and her counsel to smear [Jay-Z]’s good name.” The legal team also highlighted Jay-Z’s long-standing impeccable reputation, asserting he has never been accused of or engaged in sexual misconduct.
The lawsuit originally made headlines in October when the unnamed accuser filed a case against Diddy, alleging he and another unnamed celebrity raped her during a VMA afterparty in 2000 when she was 13 years old. Over the weekend, she refiled the case, this time naming Jay-Z as the second accused individual.
Jay-Z, however, has hit back forcefully, accusing the woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, of attempting to extort him to keep his name out of the public eye.
The rapper claims he refused to succumb to what he described as “extortionate” demands and filed a countersuit against Buzbee last November under anonymity.
Now openly admitting to being the plaintiff in that countersuit, Jay-Z claims Buzbee and the accuser named him in the refiled case as retaliation for his refusal to settle.
In the court documents, he stated, “Make no mistake, this case is about retaliating against the rare target who would not pay.”
Jay-Z’s legal team is pressing the judge to require the accuser to reveal her identity or dismiss the case entirely. The move highlights the rapper’s intent to clear his name while pushing back against what he views as unjust accusations.
As this legal battle unfolds, the accusations and counterclaims are sure to attract even more scrutiny, with both sides digging in for a potentially lengthy fight in court.
