In a surprising turn of events, 03 Greedo has publicly apologized to J. Cole for his derogatory remarks about the rapper’s music. During an interview with VladTV back in 2018, the Los Angeles rapper went on a verbal tirade, expressing his dislike for Cole’s music and labeling him as “trash” and “lame.”
However, on Sunday (May 21), Greedo took to Twitter to address his past comments and extend a formal apology to J. Cole, acknowledging him as a “top-tier” rapper. He praised Cole’s exceptional talent in delivering impressive features and admitted that his 2018 statements were completely inaccurate.
“Dear J. Cole, I want to apologize for being 103% inaccurate in calling you ‘trash,'” he wrote. “You excel in every damn feature. I take back my statements from 2018. @JColeNC is undeniably top tier. I was merely trying to express myself, believing that individuals with street personas are not recognized as true lyricists.”
During the aforementioned VladTV interview, 03 Greedo not only criticized J. Cole’s music but also targeted his hairstyle and fashion choices. He made it clear that he disliked everything about Cole and didn’t even know about his album releases.
“I dislike everything about J. Cole, whether he’s dropping an album or not,” he expressed at the time. “I didn’t even know that guy was releasing an album, to be honest. Whenever I see news mentioning J. Cole, it angers me. I despise his music. I don’t hate him personally, and I wouldn’t physically harm him or instigate anything. It’s just that his music is trash.”
He further remarked, “J. Cole is not like that, bro. But when I look at you, DJ Vlad, you’re the kind of guy he makes music for, you know what I mean? The plain old background guy who wants a calm and composed life. I make music for those who have lost someone in the system, lost someone in the streets—the people who want to demonstrate that we have a heart even though we’re out here hustling.”
“That’s not something I can relate to. He doesn’t even take care of his hair or get a decent haircut. The man looks ridiculous. So he’s influencing these young kids to walk around looking like that. Even my little nephews end up looking crazy. No, man, you should dress to impress.” Greedo also mentioned J. Cole’s critical comments about rappers consuming lean, and he even mocked Cole’s “Wet Dreamz” music video, which depicted the artist losing his virginity.
“Your music needs more energy, and yet you’re making music about how other people’s music is inferior when your own music isn’t great?” he scoffed. “You’re going against the flow, trying to tell people, ‘Your taste is wrong, what you like is stupid,’ you get me? ‘These guys just want to sip lean.'”
“There’s a way to address those issues in the culture without disrespecting others. He’s so lame for that. His perspective is absurd. He’s making a video with dogs portraying his loss of virginity, and the dogs are playing him and the girl… What kind of loser, lame weirdo does that? Kick him to the curb and move on!”
