Authorities in Costa Rica are investigating food poisoning as a possible cause of death for Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of former Yankees star Brett Gardner, who died on March 21 while vacationing with his family.
Miller and his family fell ill after dining at an Italian restaurant near their hotel, Arenas Del Mar, before returning to their accommodations. Hotel staff called a doctor to assist, but Miller was tragically found unresponsive the next morning with traces of vomit nearby.
Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) is also considering asphyxiation as a potential factor. Officials have interviewed hotel and restaurant staff, but forensic results could take months to confirm the cause.
The Gardner family, mourning their loss, described Miller as a beloved son and brother who lived life to the fullest.
