Authorities in Indiana say a 23-year-old woman has been charged with murder after a deadly road rage encounter that began with a car horn.
According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Deborah Benefiel allegedly shot and killed 21-year-old Kentrell Settles on October 17 in Indianapolis.
Investigators say the confrontation started when Settles honked at Benefiel for sitting at a green light at the intersection of West 38th Street and Georgetown Road.
After the honk, police say Benefiel followed his vehicle, shouted at him, and eventually opened fire on Donald Avenue.
Settles was struck in the chest and later died at the hospital. Detectives were able to track down Benefiel within hours, using license plate recognition technology spread across the city.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears condemned the violence, saying, “A moment of anger should not cost someone their life.”
