Ice Spice, the rising star from the Bronx, delivered an emotional acceptance speech after clinching the coveted Best New Artist award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
Dressed elegantly in an all-white tutu gown, adorned with sparkling diamond accessories, Ice Spice took the stage in Newark, New Jersey on Tuesday, September 12, to express her heartfelt gratitude.
With tears in her eyes, she humbly began, “Y’all, thank you so much.” Overwhelmed with emotion, she continued, “Thank you MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool. I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much. I want to thank my manager James. I want to thank my producer Riot USA for making the best music with me.”
Ice Spice went on to acknowledge her fellow nominees in the category, saying, “Shoutout to all the other nominees in this category. Shoutout to my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And of course, God. Without God, none of this would be possible. Shoutout the Bronx, period! Thank you guys, I love you so much!”
Ice Spice emerged victorious over tough competition, surpassing GloRilla, Kaliii, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress, and Reneé Rapp to secure the prestigious award, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.
This achievement continues a trend of female artists dominating the Best New Artist category at the MTV VMAs for the sixth consecutive year. Joining the ranks of accomplished artists like Cardi B (2018), Billie Eilish (2019), Doja Cat (2019), Olivia Rodrigo (2021), and Dove Cameron (2022), Ice Spice is now poised to follow in their footsteps.
As history has shown, most of these artists have gone on to earn Grammy nominations for Best New Artist. Only time will reveal whether Ice Spice will continue this trend and earn her place among the Grammy-nominated elite at next year’s awards.
