The Hot Boys finally made their long-awaited return as a full crew at Lil Wayne’s annual Lil WeezyAna festival last weekend, marking the first time in over two decades that Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Turk, and B.G. shared the same stage.
The iconic New Orleans hip-hop group performed at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday, November 2, delivering a powerful throwback experience for fans that felt both thrilling and nostalgic.
In a recent interview with B High ATL, Turk shared his behind-the-scenes experience of this major reunion, revealing that the initial vibe was intense but not due to any personality clashes. Instead, the tension stemmed from the significance of the moment.
“When I walked in, it was a warm welcome,” Turk said, describing the atmosphere backstage as DJ Mannie Fresh organized the setlist. Although they’d planned a lineup, last-minute changes added to the excitement.
Despite the nerves, the group handled it like seasoned pros, feeling as if they’d never left the stage. “It’s like man, we been here before,” Turk reflected.
Turk shared that Lil Wayne’s arrival was the catalyst to getting down to business. “When Wayne came in the room, we got straight to it. Came in, dapped everybody, hugs, and it was straight to business.
And yeah, we sung the songs, and it was tense. Not in a bad way, just that ‘man, we haven’t done this in a long time’ kind of tense,” he admitted.
As they performed, everyone grew more comfortable and the energy in the room lifted, building to a high point when they played the classic “Back That Azz Up.” Turk noted that by then, the nerves had melted away, replaced with the powerful nostalgia shared with their fans. “We felt what the fans felt! And it was just – we back.”
The Hot Boys’ reunion at Lil WeezyAna was more than just a performance; it was a triumphant return and a historic night for New Orleans hip-hop fans.
