The blue iguana is also known as the Grand Cayman ground iguana. It was declared “functionally extinct” back in 2005, but with the help of special breeding programs and a decrease in the number of predatory feral pets that further imperiled the iguana’s existence.
As a result, there are 443 mature blue iguanas globally, although they are currently still listed on the endangered list. Furthermore, it has been said that the population numbers are now increasing in the world.
