A traffic stop in Florida spiraled into a life-threatening ordeal after a handcuffed suspect managed to pull a concealed firearm and open fire on a deputy while seated in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Authorities identified the woman as 22-year-old Rheanna Harden, who was taken into custody in 2025 for driving with a suspended license, providing false identification, and possessing drugs. Newly released body-camera footage shows Harden shifting in the rear seat and digging into her pants while the deputy drove.
Moments later, she produced a handgun and fired toward the front of the vehicle. The sudden gunshot caused the patrol car to veer off course and slam into a nearby utility pole. The deputy quickly exited the vehicle and returned fire.
Both individuals were injured during the incident. Harden suffered wounds to her shoulder and hip, while the deputy sustained a graze injury near his right eye. Emergency crews responded and transported Harden for medical treatment.
Prosecutors have now filed serious charges against Harden, including attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case has drawn widespread attention, raising questions about transport procedures and officer safety during arrests.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials review how the weapon went undetected and assess potential changes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
