A devastating incident unfolded at the Grand Canyon this week after a 65-year-old man lost his life following a deadly fall at Guano Point… a popular sightseeing area located along the canyon’s west rim in Arizona.
According to officials, the man… whose identity has not yet been revealed to the public… accidentally slipped and went over the edge, plunging over 100 feet down into the canyon. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said his body was later located on a rock formation approximately 130 feet below where he fell.
The fall reportedly happened in a section with no guardrails or fencing, according to photos released from the scene. Authorities were alerted by the Hualapai Nation, which oversees that side of the tourist attraction.
Multiple agencies responded to the emergency… including the Hualapai Tribal Police and Search & Rescue teams… who worked together to recover the man’s body. A technical rope and pulley system had to be installed to lower teams into the canyon for retrieval. His remains were transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner for further evaluation.
Officials say the family of the victim has been notified.
This tragedy comes as park officials continue urging visitors to use extreme caution when near unprotected edges, as Grand Canyon falls continue to remain one of the most dangerous and fatal risks for tourists every year.
