Government Seeks Approval to Monitor B.G.’s Lyrics: If the government’s request is granted, B.G., the former Hot Boys rapper, could find his lyrics under the scrutiny of his probation officer.
B.G., whose real name is Christopher Dorsey, regained his freedom last year after serving time for firearms possession and obstruction of justice charges dating back to 2012.
However, the U.S. government has raised concerns about B.G.’s post-release music, alleging that his lyrics glorify criminal activities, potentially violating the terms of his probation.
Court documents obtained by iHearts143Quotes, reveal that authorities are seeking to adjust B.G.’s release conditions, possibly requiring him to seek approval for his lyrics before releasing them.
The motion filed states, “Mr. Dorsey seems to be retracing the steps that led to his initial incarceration. While the Government acknowledges his entrepreneurial efforts to re-enter the music scene, it harbors reservations about the impact on his rehabilitation and societal reintegration, the primary objectives of supervised release.”
It further notes, “Mr. Dorsey’s recent song/video ‘Same Gangsta’ and others of similar themes suggest a return to the lifestyle that led to his lengthy imprisonment.”
The court document acknowledges B.G.’s musical talent, which he displayed since his teenage years. However, it expresses concerns that he has utilized his skills to glorify violence and criminal behavior, thus perpetuating a harmful narrative.
In light of these concerns, the government seeks closer oversight of B.G.’s artistic output to ensure compliance with the conditions of his release and promote his successful reintegration into society.
