In a heartbreaking incident, YNG Cheese, the son of rapper Gillie Da Kid, was tragically killed during a triple shooting in Philadelphia. The shooting occurred on July 20th at around 8:24 p.m. in the Olney neighborhood on Mascher Street (5800 block).
During the incident, a 25-year-old man was shot in the back and succumbed to his injuries at 8:39 p.m. Two other victims, aged 28 and 31, were also shot but are currently in stable condition after being taken to the hospital by authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered 10 spent shell casings, and one of the victims sought refuge in a nearby residence.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The identity of the deceased has not been officially released by the police, but sources close to the family confirmed that it was Gillie Da Kid’s son, YNG Cheese.
Following the tragic news, many figures from the music industry expressed their condolences. Gillie Da Kid’s co-host from Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Wallo, paid tribute to YNG Cheese on Instagram, sharing fond memories and heartfelt messages. Artists like 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, E-40, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco, Lloyd Banks, Bobby Shmurda, and others also shared their sympathies and prayers.
This unfortunate incident adds to the rising homicide rates in Philadelphia, with 2023 becoming one of the deadliest years since record-keeping began in 2007, with the number currently standing at 235.
Gillie Da Kid had recently made an emotional plea following another mass shooting in the city, reflecting on the senseless violence and urging for a return to a time when conflicts were not taken to such extreme and tragic measures.
