The family of 16-year-old Lequan Stephens is pushing back against authorities after he was described as “armed and dangerous” in connection with a shooting that left another teenager critically injured.
Stephens became the subject of an intense manhunt before being turned in by his own father.
Despite the warning issued by law enforcement, his loved ones say the description doesn’t reflect who he truly is.
“He’s a good kid. A sweet boy,” a family member said. “He’s been through a lot, but he’s loving and caring. He’s far from what they’re saying.”
Georgia deputies allege Stephens shot another teen in the face and neck. The victim remains hospitalized as the investigation continues.
Authorities also claim Stephens was involved in a separate incident last August in which shots were fired at a residence.
The case has sparked debate online, with some calling for accountability while others point to the teen’s age and background.
As the legal process unfolds, the family hopes the public sees more than the label… insisting their son is more than the headlines.
