After nearly two decades on the run, Leydis Menendez Abdala, 52, has been captured in Mexico and extradited to Miami. She faces vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter charges in the 2006 crash that killed 39-year-old mother of two, Gloria Marcia Hall, in Hialeah.
Police say Abdala ran a flashing red light and admitted to drinking before the deadly collision. But before she could be arrested, she vanished… allegedly tipped off by a boyfriend inside the police department.
For 19 years, Hall’s family fought for justice. “While nothing can erase our pain, knowing Gloria’s case has not been forgotten brings us peace,” her brother, Miami Police Commander Joaquin Freire, said.
Abdala remains in custody and is due back in court Monday.
