In a recent verse by Kendrick Lamar on Future and Metro Boomin’s track “Like That,” he stirred up chatter within the hip-hop community.
Lamar’s words, especially his reference to the “Big 3” in hip-hop, which many presume includes himself, J. Cole, and Drake, didn’t go unnoticed by rapper Freddie Gibbs.
Taking to Twitter and other platforms on Friday, Gibbs shared his thoughts on K. Dot’s latest verse. Kendrick’s line, “Muthafuck the Big 3, n***a/ It’s just big me,” raised eyebrows, particularly when he followed it up with a comparison between Prince and Michael Jackson, suggesting Prince’s endurance surpasses MJ’s legacy.
Fans speculated that this MJ/Prince comparison might be a jab at Drake, who has often likened himself to Michael Jackson, notably in his collaboration with J. Cole, “First Person Shooter,” a track Kendrick explicitly mentions.
Freddie Gibbs, who’s from Gary, Indiana, like Michael Jackson, chimed in with his own perspective on Kendrick’s line, injecting humor into the discussion without engaging in any perceived beef.
“First of all, Mike ain’t dead,” Gibbs wrote, garnering laughs from most of his audience.
This light-hearted take from Gibbs showcases his wit and humor, steering clear of any hints of rivalry while adding a touch of levity to the ongoing banter in the hip-hop community.
