A former Alabama sports journalist and her husband were found dead inside their Hoover home in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide, police confirmed Tuesday. Their 3-year-old son was discovered nearby and was not injured.
Christina Chambers, who previously worked as a sports reporter for WBRC 6 before leaving television to pursue a career in education, and her husband, Johnny Rimes, were located at the residence shortly after 9 a.m., according to station officials.
The Hoover Police Department said both adults suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators indicated the case is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide, though the circumstances remain under active investigation.
Police confirmed the couple’s young child was inside the home at the time but was found safe and unharmed.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, where Chambers was remembered as a respected journalist and educator.
