Florida State University confirmed Monday that freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is in critical but stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound while visiting relatives in Havana, Florida, on Sunday night.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound four-star recruit remains in the intensive care unit at a Tallahassee-area hospital, where doctors continue to monitor his recovery.
In a statement, FSU said: “The Pritchard family is grateful for the outpouring of support and the dedicated care of first responders and medical staff. They respectfully request privacy during this difficult time. Updates will be shared when available.”
Pritchard, who starred at Seminole High School in Sanford before committing to the Seminoles, was ranked among the nation’s top 500 prospects by recruiting services. He did not suit up in Florida State’s upset victory over No. 8 Alabama on Saturday.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details about the incident and did not immediately respond to media inquiries.
