A terrifying ride malfunction at the Harvest Festival in New Roads, Louisiana left two young girls hospitalized Saturday.
Witnesses say their Ferris wheel basket suddenly tilted upside down while rotating, sending both girls plunging about 20 feet onto a steel platform.
One suffered broken bones, while the other may have bleeding on the brain, according to local reports.
A third child managed to cling to the basket and avoided falling. The Ferris wheel and one nearby ride were immediately shut down as the Louisiana State Fire Marshal investigates the cause.
The festival is held annually to support the local agricultural community.
