A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to more than a decade behind bars after violently attacking his own infant during a moment of rage sparked by a video game loss.
Jalin White, 22, received a 12-year prison sentence along with an additional seven years of extended supervision for the abuse of his 8-month-old son. Prosecutors said the incident occurred after White became frustrated while playing the basketball video game NBA 2K and threw the baby against a wall.
During his sentencing, White told the court that he never meant to harm his child, saying his actions were not intentional. However, medical testimony painted a devastating picture of the injuries the baby suffered.
Doctors reported that the infant lost a pulse and had to be intubated before being revived through multiple rounds of CPR. Examinations revealed a severe skull fracture, bleeding in the brain, six broken ribs in various stages of healing, and a fractured collarbone that had already begun to heal — evidence suggesting repeated trauma.
At one point, medical professionals did not believe the baby would survive. Against the odds, he lived, but the injuries have left permanent consequences.
Milwaukee prosecutors confirmed the child now suffers from vision impairment, relies on a feeding tube, and requires ongoing treatment from multiple medical specialists every week. Authorities described the case as an extreme example of infant abuse fueled by uncontrolled anger.
