In a recent interview on the Jay Shetty Podcast, which aired on Monday, July 29, Fat Joe expressed his views on how J. Cole’s apology to Kendrick Lamar might have impacted his legacy.
The veteran rapper reflected on the importance of responding to challenges in the hip-hop world, drawing on his own experiences.
During the conversation, Fat Joe recalled his past feud with 50 Cent, highlighting how they have since reconciled and become close friends. “I had one of the biggest, most dangerous beefs with 50 Cent, and I was sitting next to him at the game yesterday, having the best time in the world. We’re brothers,” Joe shared.
Turning his attention to J. Cole, Fat Joe admitted he is a fan but criticized Cole’s decision to back down from his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. “When you’re called out in Hip-Hop, you gotta respond. I’m a big fan of J. Cole, but it started from that,” Joe remarked.
He suggested that Cole’s choice to avoid the confrontation might have diminished his standing in the rap community. “He probably saw that it could get real messy and real ugly and so he said, ‘Yo, you know this ain’t me I don’t want no parts of it.’ But, he definitely got a stripe off… They took a stripe off that because in Hip-Hop, when they call you out, you come out,” Fat Joe concluded.
