Former NFL running back Doug Martin, best known for his years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has tragically died following an encounter with police in Oakland, California.
According to reports, Oakland Police responded to a call about a possible home burglary near the Oakland Zoo early Saturday morning. Officers were informed that the suspected intruder… later identified as Martin… was also experiencing a medical emergency.
Authorities say a brief struggle occurred when officers made contact. Shortly after being placed in custody, Martin became unresponsive. Emergency responders performed life-saving measures before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases. Martin’s official cause of death has not yet been determined. Multiple agencies, including the Oakland Police Department, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
