A former police officer from Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after orchestrating a massive hacking scheme that compromised thousands of student accounts and exposed victims’ private photos.
Ayron Taylor, 25, of Moorestown, was accused of carrying out what prosecutors described as an “extremely nightmarish invasion of privacy.” While serving as a cop, Taylor illegally accessed 5,000 Rowan College at Burlington County email accounts, targeting women and publishing their intimate images online.
The investigation began when one victim reported her Facebook and Snapchat accounts were hijacked, with her private photos blasted to friends and even posted publicly. Authorities later discovered Taylor had hacked into thousands of college accounts to fuel his scheme.
Taylor pled guilty in March to computer theft and official misconduct. Prosecutors emphasized the betrayal of trust, noting that he abused his position as a law enforcement officer.
“You cannot hide from us in cyberspace… we will find you,” Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said, calling the crimes “a devastating violation of trust and privacy.”
Taylor joined the Mount Laurel police force in 2021 but was suspended and eventually resigned once charges were filed.
