Elon Musk did indeed purchase Twitter for $44 Billion. The deal has finally closed, leaving Musk as the new owner of the social media giant.
Musk started cleaning house by firing several top executives as his first move. Musk was expected to assume ownership of the site imminently, according to The Washington Post.
Musk is to meet with Twitter’s content moderation policies because he disagrees with the company’s practice of permanently banning users who repeatedly violate its rules. Instead, musk wants the platform to be a place of free speech.
Musk said he brought Twitter “to help humanity.”
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk wrote.
“There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide in our society.”
According to Bloomberg, he said he would not cut 75% of the company’s staff.
