In a political bombshell shaking Washington and the 2024 race, billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has announced the creation of a brand-new political force: the America Party.
The move comes on the heels of a highly publicized falling out with former ally Donald Trump, after the president signed a controversial spending bill Musk claims will devastate the U.S. economy.
“When waste and corruption bankrupt the country, you realize it’s not a democracy… it’s a one-party system,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Today, we launch the America Party to give power back to the people.”
Musk, once the biggest financial backer of Trump’s 2024 campaign, had played a key advisory role in shaping policies aimed at reducing government waste. But the alliance began to crumble when Trump pushed through his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” projected to skyrocket the national deficit by trillions.
Although Musk initially walked back some of his harshest criticisms, tensions flared again in recent days as the bill advanced through Congress. On Friday, Trump signed it into law… prompting Musk to follow through on his earlier threat to start a new political movement.
President Trump responded to Musk’s announcement with visible frustration.
“Starting a third party? It’s ridiculous,” he told reporters Sunday. “It only causes confusion. The GOP is strong, the Democrats are lost… third parties just don’t work.”
Trump dismissed the new party as a “distraction” and said it would divide voters ahead of a crucial election year.
