Elon Musk believes the US should release people from jail for weed charges due to President Biden offering to swap a Russian arms dealer for WNBA star Britney Griner.
Elon Musk decided to go to Twitter to voice his opinion on what the US should do for people who are in prison for weed charges. He believes that since President Biden agreed to swap a Russian arms dealer for Brittney Griner, he believes that the people in prison now for weed charges should be set free because it’s totally unfair.
Since February, Britney Griner has been detained in Russia after being arrested at Moscow’s airport. Griner was caught with a vape cartridge containing hashish oil in her luggage. Griner has a medical marijuana card, but they have different laws due to her being in Russia.
“Maybe free some people in jail for weed here too?” Musk wrote in Sunday’s tweet, alongside a meme captioned, “People in the US in jail for weed while the government trades a Russian war criminal to free a woman’s basketball player in jail for weed.”
The US has offered to release Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who was giving the nicknamed the “merchant of death,” in exchange for Griner and Paul Whelan, a former Marines espionage according to the New York Times.
“Selling weed literally went from major felony to essential business (open during pandemic) in much of America and yet many are still in prison. Doesn’t make sense, isn’t right,” the Tesla CEO also tweeted in 2020.
