Drake’s track “Taylor Made Freestyle,” aimed at Kendrick Lamar, has been taken down following a legal threat from the estate of 2Pac.
The controversial song featured AI-generated vocals from both 2Pac and Snoop Dogg but was removed from Drake’s social media platforms after 2Pac’s estate demanded its removal within 24 hours.
In a recent cease and desist letter, 2Pac’s estate expressed deep dismay over the unauthorized use of 2Pac’s likeness and voice.
They emphasized that the song not only violated 2Pac’s publicity rights but also disrespected his legacy as one of the greatest hip-hop artists. The estate clarified that they would never have approved such use.
Furthermore, the estate pointed out the additional offense of using 2Pac’s voice against Kendrick Lamar, who is regarded as a friend to the estate and has consistently shown respect for 2Pac’s legacy in both public and private spheres.
The removal of “Taylor Made Freestyle” underscores the complexities of utilizing AI to replicate deceased artists’ voices and the legal challenges that arise from such endeavors.
