Drake has sparked conversation surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance, subtly suggesting Lil Wayne should have been the star instead.
On Tuesday night (September 10), the Toronto rapper took to his Instagram Stories to show love to his former Young Money mentor, Lil Wayne, further fueling the ongoing debate.
Drake shared a series of throwback photos of Wayne, seemingly expressing his disappointment over the rap legend being overlooked for Super Bowl LIX. The first photo features a younger Lil Wayne giving a fierce look to the camera, which many believe reflects Drake’s feelings about Wayne being passed over for the halftime show in favor of Kendrick Lamar.
In addition to that, Drake posted images from Wayne’s iconic “A Milli” video shoot and older snapshots of him with a flip phone and gambling. These posts came at a time when Hip Hop fans are divided over the decision to have Kendrick Lamar headline the February 9 event in New Orleans—Wayne’s hometown.
While Kendrick has an impressive catalog and is riding high after his recent success, some argue Lil Wayne, as one of New Orleans’ most iconic figures, was snubbed for the prestigious performance. As the debate rages on, Drake’s support for Wayne only adds more heat to the conversation.
