Drake has emerged as a key figure in rescuing the historic Venezia soccer club from financial collapse.
According to GQ Italia, the nearly 120-year-old club was on the brink of bankruptcy, needing an urgent infusion of 10 million Euros ($10.9 million) followed by an additional 30 million Euros ($32.7 million).
When Drake, known for his love of sports and philanthropy, got wind of the situation, he wasted no time in stepping up, as confirmed by his chief business officer, Matte Babel.
“Venice is an extraordinary city, and Venezia has always held a unique place in football history,” Babel shared. “After discussing the situation with Drake and co-owner Brad Katsuyama, we quickly formulated a plan.
Within two weeks, we had secured the necessary funds to cover salaries and avert bankruptcy.” The funds reportedly came from a coalition of North American investors, though the exact contribution from Drake remains undisclosed.
However, it’s clear that Drake and his team played a pivotal role in galvanizing the fundraising efforts.
Beyond the financial rescue, Drake’s connection to the club has deepened through his Nike sub-label, NOCTA, which has now become Venezia’s official technical partner, solidifying his influence on and off the pitch.
