Drake is obligated to participate in a deposition or appear in court regarding his alleged involvement in the XXXTentacion murder trial.
As per a report published by Rolling Stone on Thursday, 9th February, a judge granted the request made by the defense attorney, Mauricio Padilla of the suspect, Dedrick Williams. Padilla requested for an “order to show cause” after claiming that Drake was properly served with a subpoena for a deposition at the end of January. Drake must attend the deposition on 24th February or risk being charged with contempt.
The defense attorney for Williams, Mauricio Padilla, has been suggesting Drake and his prior conflict with XXXTentacion as a potential explanation for the latter’s death. During the opening statements made earlier in the week, Padilla stated that the investigators did not thoroughly examine the beef between Drake and XXXTentacion. The two had a falling out in 2017 after XXXTentacion, born Jahseh Onfroy, was informed by a friend that Drake appreciated his music and intended to offer help while he was in jail. However, as Drake never personally contacted him, XXXTentacion’s view of him changed.
Furthermore, Padilla mentioned that Cleopatra Bernard, Onfroy’s mother, was also worried about her son’s conflicts with Drake and Migos. She even informed the authorities in her deposition that she requested a relative to accompany her son at RIVA Motorsports on the day of his death “due to the ongoing feud with Drake and Migos.” Williams’ defense attorney also pointed out in the filing that Drake has referenced their conflict in cryptic lyrics in various songs, including “BS” on his recent collaboration with 21 Savage.
In 2018, a post on X’s Instagram account claimed, “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi [Drake]. I’m snitching RN.” However, the artist swiftly clarified that his social media account had been compromised.
“I never put no prices on the beef until we end this s***,” Drake raps. “I pay half a million for his soul, he my nemesis.”
