“Wildest thing I’ve seen in a while,” says police official
A routine afternoon at Al’s Fresh Fish & Chicken in Detroit took a chaotic turn when a 56-year-old employee accidentally discharged a firearm inside the restaurant… injuring himself and two unsuspecting customers.
According to Detroit police, the incident unfolded around 1 p.m. Wednesday at the carry-out only location on Russell Street. Authorities say the worker discovered a gun inside the establishment and accidentally fired it while handling the weapon.
What followed was a bizarre chain reaction: the bullet struck the worker in the hand, then traveled through a doorway, hitting two customers… one in the arm, the other grazed.
Both customers, ages 33 and 46, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One was taken to a local hospital while the others received treatment on-site.
Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald called the incident “one of the silliest things I’ve seen in quite some time,” during a press conference.
“If you don’t know how to handle a firearm, don’t touch it,” Fitzgerald emphasized. “Now we’ve got two innocent people who were just trying to grab a bite to eat, and instead, they’re walking away with gunshot wounds.”
The case is currently under investigation, and findings will be handed over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
