A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Boston was forced to make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport on Saturday after a bird strike hit one of its engines shortly after takeoff, according to Delta and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Flight DL1300, originally scheduled for Boston Logan International Airport, was only minutes into the air when the incident occurred. Pilots quickly returned to Miami, where the aircraft landed safely. Delta confirmed there were no reported injuries among passengers or crew.
Despite the scare, the aircraft was cleared and eventually departed again, arriving in Boston roughly two hours later than scheduled. Delta apologized for the disruption, assuring travelers that safety remains the airline’s “top priority.”
The incident highlights a growing aviation challenge. FAA data shows a 14% increase in bird and wildlife strikes between 2023 and 2024, with over 8,000 incidents already recorded in 2025. Aviation experts warn that as air traffic increases, so does the risk of collisions with wildlife… prompting ongoing safety reviews and preventative measures at major airports.
