Deion Sanders, affectionately known as “Coach Prime,” is stepping up in support of Colorado Buffaloes cornerback Travis Hunter, urging him to rise above the noise surrounding his relationship with fiancée Leanna Lenee.
During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show on Friday, January 13, Sanders addressed the public scrutiny Hunter and Lenee have faced and offered words of encouragement rooted in his own life experience.
As a two-time divorcé, Sanders shared heartfelt advice with Hunter, a rising star. “Don’t stop,” Sanders advised, emphasizing the importance of resilience in the face of criticism.
The drama escalated last year when Hunter deactivated his Instagram account following backlash toward Lenee. Social media erupted after Lenee appeared annoyed while Hunter engaged with fans at an Adidas event and didn’t immediately cheer for him during his Heisman acceptance.
Adding fuel to the fire, critics unearthed old footage where Lenee stated Hunter wasn’t initially “her type” and admitted to taking two months to respond to his first direct messages. Another video, allegedly showing Lenee dancing provocatively in a schoolgirl outfit, further stoked the flames of controversy.
Despite the negativity, Sanders remained steadfast in his support for Hunter. “What the enemy wants you to do is stop,” Sanders declared, likening the situation to deer hunting. “When you’re moving, it’s hard to get a good shot at you. But when you stay still, you give them a chance to attack.”
He urged Hunter to push forward, no matter the challenges, saying, “Keep on moving. Don’t let the enemy get you where you’re still and having a pity party on yourself.”
Sanders also reminded Hunter of his responsibilities as a public figure, noting that endorsements and sponsorships require him to remain active and engaged. “We can’t deactivate; we gotta activate right now,” he added.
Sanders’ words offer a powerful reminder about resilience and staying focused despite the distractions.
By standing firmly behind his player, Coach Prime not only offers personal guidance but also sets an example of leadership and support in the face of adversity.
