DaBaby is back with a fresh perspective and a new album that he’s genuinely excited about. The rapper recently revealed that How TF is This a Mixtape? marks the first time he’s been passionate about his music since the tragic loss of his brother, Glenn Johnson, in late 2020.
According to DaBaby, the projects he released between then and now were just a means to keep his career afloat, admitting he didn’t care much about them.
In a candid interview on Sway in the Morning (October 1), DaBaby delved into his emotional journey, discussing the concept of “survivor’s guilt” and how his brother’s passing impacted him. Glenn Johnson died by suicide in November 2020, a heartbreaking moment that deeply affected the rapper.
“Anything I dropped from 2020 after my brother passed — I didn’t really care about it,” DaBaby shared with Sway. “I was just aiming at a specific audience, trying to generate income to keep things moving. But this is the first time I’ve truly cared about a project.”
This newfound passion for his work has sparked excitement not just for the rapper but for fans as well, as How TF is This a Mixtape? promises to showcase a deeper, more introspective side of DaBaby. Fans are eagerly anticipating what this new era of creativity will bring.
