Connecticut has made the big jump to make all prison phone calls free. They decided to come up with this to help address one of the biggest emotional and financial burdens faced by those incarcerated.
The State prison used Securus Technologies as their vendor, which charges up to $5 for a 15-minute call, which was found out to be the highest phone rate in the country.
The State prison now allows juveniles, women, and men a minimum of 90 minutes a day of free calls. The State no longer allows corporations to exploit the love between incarcerated people and their families anymore.
