Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a leading right-wing presidential hopeful, is recovering after being shot during a campaign rally in Bogotá. The 39-year-old was hit twice in the head and once in the knee and rushed to Santa Fe Clinic for emergency brain and vascular surgery.
Officials say Uribe survived the initial surgery and remains in critical but stable condition. His wife shared that he’s “fighting for his life” after the shocking attack.
The shooting took place in the Fontibón area, where a 15-year-old suspect was arrested on-site. Two bystanders were also injured. Uribe’s party, the Democratic Center, condemned the act as “unacceptable violence.”
President Gustavo Petro canceled a trip to France and offered a reward for capturing those involved. “Life must be respected,” he posted on X.
