A 24-year-old Cleveland man has been sentenced to 19 years in federal prison for orchestrating a series of violent ATM robberies that targeted armored vehicle employees across Ohio.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Christion Yarnell Sims and his accomplices carried out coordinated attacks in July and September 2024, lying in wait for armored truck workers as they serviced ATMs.
During the robberies, victims were threatened with firearms, creating terrifying, life-or-death encounters.
Investigators were able to identify Sims after he posted images of himself posing with large amounts of cash on social media… evidence that ultimately tied him to the crimes.
Sims pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges, including robbery, carjacking, and using a firearm during a violent crime.
Authorities say the group stole more than $300,000 in total. Along with his prison sentence, Sims has been ordered to repay nearly the full amount.
Federal officials emphasized that the lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the danger posed to workers simply doing their jobs.
