In a recent discussion on the Its Up There podcast, Charlamagne Tha God made an interesting comparison between Cardi B and hip-hop icons Jay-Z and Drake. While awaiting Cardi B’s highly anticipated follow-up to Invasion of Privacy, the rapper has been making waves through her collaborations and standout verses.
Despite not providing a release date or a single for her upcoming album, Cardi B has been holding her own, especially in the company of emerging female artists who are dominating the hip-hop scene with their hottest tracks.
Last year, Cardi B’s feature on GloRilla’s “Tomorrow 2” contributed to the massive success of the song, making it one of the biggest records of the year. She further showcased her talent by joining Latto on “Put It On The Floor Again,” a track that already seems to have a stronghold on the summer of 2023. This Friday, Cardi B will collaborate with buzzing MC Fendi The Rapper on the remix of “Point Me To The Sl**s.”
Charlamagne Tha God believes that Cardi B is employing a strategy reminiscent of the tactics used by Drake and Jay-Z in the past. During the podcast, Charlamagne and Big Loon explored the rise of women in hip-hop and their domination of the genre.
Charlamagne commended Cardi B for paving the way for this new chapter in the culture, stating, “Cardi shifted that in the culture… She made it possible for the OGs, the ones who’ve made all the money and sold all the records, to have no problem embracing the next generation.” He further emphasized, “Cardi did for female rap what Jay-Z and Drake did, you know what I mean?”
