New revelations have emerged regarding the violent assault on Casanova at Essex County Jail on June 14. The incident took place just moments after the rapper publicly disassociated himself from the Untouchable Gorilla Stone gang.
According to Casanova’s attorney, this declaration has put his life in immediate peril. While engaging in a routine exercise of pushups in a communal area, Casanova was ambushed by another inmate who proceeded to stab him, berating him for his abandonment of the gang. The wounds on his head were inflicted from behind. The attack inflicted multiple injuries, requiring stitches on his head and hands, with most of the hand injuries being defensive wounds.
This brutal incident serves as a chilling reminder of the potentially fatal consequences faced by those who leave criminal organizations, a matter that Casanova’s lawyer argues should be taken into account during his sentencing. Presently, the rapper faces charges related to his alleged involvement with the notorious street gang, which could result in a prison term of 15 to 60 years.
James Kousouros, Casanova’s attorney, contends, “His public renunciation of the gang has not only endangered his life but will also make his future incarceration far more challenging than envisioned by our judicial system.” In a remarkable twist, Casanova’s legal counsel is leveraging the testimony of Roland “Ro Murda” Martin, a former associate of 6ix9ine, to support their case.
Roland Martin, previously an enemy of Casanova and a former member of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, similarly renounced his gang affiliation while serving a nine-year sentence. He, too, endured a vicious assault, sustaining multiple stab wounds. Martin’s experience bears a striking resemblance to Casanova’s ordeal. Judge Englemayer, acknowledging the dangers Martin faced due to his gang renunciation, ultimately handed him a sentence below the recommended guidelines, granting him 66 months in prison.
Casanova’s lawyer argues that the recent attack on their client reinforces the plea for a more lenient sentence, considering the severe and hazardous circumstances endured by individuals with prior affiliations. Additionally, Casanova’s attorney asserts that the government’s portrayal of the rapper’s involvement with the gang is exaggerated.
“Casanova began his distancing from the gang years ago, as we have detailed in our initial submission, as he publicly advocated against gang membership relating in detail the destruction of the gang life from his own personal experiences,” clarified Kousouros.
The sentencing for Casanova is scheduled to take place on June 27, where these recent developments will undoubtedly play a significant role.
