
A prominent executive tied to the Call of Duty video game franchise has reportedly died after a violent car crash on a mountainous roadway outside Los Angeles over the weekend.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision around 12:45 p.m.
Sunday near mile marker 62 along Angeles Crest Highway in Altadena. Authorities confirmed two people were involved in the incident.
Investigators say the vehicle was traveling southbound when it suddenly left the roadway, slammed into a concrete barrier, and burst into flames.
One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second person was ejected from the vehicle and later died at a nearby hospital. The identity of the passenger has not yet been released.
NBC Los Angeles reports that the driver was Vincent Zampella, a well-known name in the video game industry. Officials have not yet determined what caused the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Zampella was widely recognized as the head of Respawn Entertainment and previously served as CEO of Infinity Ward, the studio credited with creating the globally successful Call of Duty franchise. He was reported to be 55 years old.
Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
