WNBA icon Brittney Griner didn’t hold back her frustration during a heated moment in Saturday night’s matchup between the Atlanta Dream and the Dallas Wings. As the Dream pushed Dallas to their fourth straight loss, Griner seized a rare moment during a halftime interview to call out what she saw as unfair officiating.
Right before speaking to CBS Sports at the break, Griner noticed referees passing behind her. That’s when she turned and voiced her anger about the physical play she felt was going uncalled. As the officials walked away, viewers clearly heard her shout: “Be f—ing better!”
Moments later, Griner apologized on-air for the profanity, acknowledging fans watching at home.
Despite the tension, Griner delivered a solid performance… scoring 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in the Dream’s 83-75 victory. Allisha Gray powered the team with a game-high 27 points, 6 assists, and 5 boards.
This season marks Griner’s first with the Atlanta Dream after a long and emotional run with the Phoenix Mercury. Her career made global headlines in 2022 after her arrest and detainment in Russia, which led to a high-profile prisoner swap involving Viktor Bout, dubbed “The Merchant of Death.”
Since her return, Griner played two additional seasons in Phoenix, where she solidified her legacy as a two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 17.7 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Now adjusting to her new role in Atlanta, Griner is averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game across her first four outings… continuing to bring both power and passion to the court.
