A night in the heart of Manhattan turned violent when gunfire erupted in Times Square, leaving three people injured and a 17-year-old suspect in police custody, according to the NYPD.
Authorities say the shooting happened just after 1:20 a.m. Saturday on West 44th Street near Seventh Avenue, one of New York City’s busiest tourist spots. Investigators believe the violence began as a fight inside the Raising Cane’s restaurant on the corner before spilling onto the street.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of hooded teenagers arguing before shots rang out. The chaos left a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the foot, an 18-year-old woman with a neck graze, and a 65-year-old man shot in the leg. All three victims were rushed to the hospital and are expected to recover.
Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene and believe the suspect may have been involved in a dispute with one of the victims before opening fire. It’s unclear if the suspect and victims had any prior connection.
The investigation remains ongoing as Times Square visitors and locals grapple with yet another incident of gun violence in the city’s iconic hub.
