Boosie Badazz recently shared insights into his musical tastes, shedding light on why he’s not particularly familiar with Eminem’s extensive catalog.
The Louisiana rap icon, speaking in an interview with Cam Capone News on February 20th, addressed the ongoing debate sparked by Dr. Umar regarding Eminem’s place in the pantheon of rap greats due to his race.
Reflecting on his upbringing in Baton Rouge, Boosie remarked, “Where I’m from, we don’t listen to Eminem.” He emphasized that his community, rooted in the trenches, simply didn’t resonate with Eminem’s music. “I’m from the trenches. I never heard nobody come into my project playing Eminem. I’ma keep it real,” he added.
While acknowledging Eminem’s undeniable skill on the mic, Boosie reiterated that the Detroit rapper’s music didn’t find a place in his neighborhood.
“When I hear him, I say, ‘He can rap.’ I always say that,” Boosie continued. “I used to like that song ‘Slim Shady.’ But where I’m from? I’ve never heard one song in my project. I never heard Eminem not one time in the speakers in my project. None of my friends never said, ‘Play that new Eminem.’ I only saw him on MTV, you know, TV.”
Boosie also highlighted the subjective nature of musical preferences, noting that everyone has their own favorites. “Everybody has their greats. If you put 10 people lined up on this couch, everybody gon’ tell you five different greats,” he explained. “Eminem’s music has touched a lot of people. DMX‘s music has touched a lot of people.”
In summary, Boosie Badazz offered insights into his musical background and preferences, shedding light on why Eminem’s music didn’t resonate with him personally while acknowledging its impact on a broader scale.
