Birdman, a highly influential figure in the Southern hip-hop scene, has faced a setback in his business endeavors. Unfortunately, he was ensnared in a fraudulent scheme while venturing into the oil industry. Birdman, along with his brother Slim, established BRONALD Oil and Gas, an oil and gas exploration company. However, their involvement in this side venture led to trouble.
Between March 2006 and November 2010, approximately 20 individuals, including Birdman, fell prey to a scam orchestrated by Mark Roy Anderson. Anderson swindled the duo out of a staggering $5.4 million. The FBI diligently pursued Anderson for a decade, extensively interviewing Baby and Slim. Ultimately, law enforcement apprehended him, resulting in an eleven-year prison sentence.
According to a report from the Daily Beast, Anderson allegedly stole one million dollars from a Dallas real estate broker and other investors. Following the issuance of a civil suit, which he evaded, authorities initiated a criminal investigation. Anderson was subsequently convicted and fined $130,000.
However, the specific role of Birdman in this narrative remains unclear. What is known is that Birdman and Anderson crossed paths between April and September of 2008, during which Baby transferred $5.4 million to him. Additionally, the Cash Money executive personally met with Anderson in Oklahoma to inspect the oil leases and validate his investments.
After deceiving Birdman and other investors, Anderson vanished from the oil industry. In 2011, the FBI interviewed Birdman in their pursuit of Anderson. Unfortunately, it appears that the scammer did not learn his lesson, as he was arrested once again in 2020. This time, he faced charges related to a three-year hemp farm scam, causing investors to lose approximately $9 million.
