Birdman, co-founder of Cash Money Records, has voiced his belief that the South deserves more recognition for its significant impact on the world of Hip Hop.
In a conversation with NBA legend Jalen Rose, Birdman emphasized the crucial influence of the Third Coast in shaping rap music, asserting that the region has played a pivotal role in keeping the genre “alive.”
During the discussion, Birdman expressed his dissatisfaction with what he perceives as a lack of acknowledgment towards the South in the realm of Hip Hop.
Referring to the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop celebrations, he stated, “Hip Hop 50, right? I still say that they don’t compliment the South enough for me.”
Birdman specifically highlighted Uncle Luke’s recent criticism of the anniversary celebrations, noting the minimal representation of Florida in the event.
According to Birdman, Uncle Luke deserves significant respect for his contributions to the genre, emphasizing his prominence in the early days of Hip Hop when the movement was still gaining traction.
The Cash Money co-founder underlined his perspective by stating, “The South doesn’t get the respect that we deserve. That’s just my opinion and f**k who don’t like it.”
