Billboard recently released its highly anticipated list of the “50 Greatest Rap Groups of All Time.” OutKast secured the prestigious number one position, surpassing the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, and many others.
While there’s no denying OutKast’s significant contributions to the hip-hop landscape since their debut in the ’90s, opinions vary among social media users regarding which group truly deserves the top spot. The comment section witnessed a heated debate.
One Instagram user expressed disbelief, stating, “Seriously? They are legends, but the absolute best? LMFAOO, no way, man.” Another user argued passionately, claiming, “Wu-Tang is unequivocally the greatest rap group of all time.” Yet another user chimed in, proposing, “Wu-Tang is the greatest GROUP. OutKast is the greatest duo.”
While some commenters disagreed with the ranking, loyal OutKast fans came to their defense. “Billboard finally got it right,” asserted one social media user, while another confidently stated, “If you disagree, you clearly lack any sense of music taste.” A commenter humorously remarked, “Only the 2000’s babies would object to this,” followed by a laughing emoji. Another supporter lauded OutKast’s discography, claiming, “With each album, these guys transported us to an entirely different dimension.”
However, some commenters, although respectful of the outlet’s decision, personally disagreed. “I’m not angry about it, but it wouldn’t be my personal choice. Still, a solid overall ranking,” wrote one user. Numerous users argued that OutKast’s sheer creativity alone places them above the competition, while others felt that they haven’t influenced the rap genre enough to merit the top position.
